Breathwork Lab is a new monthly breathwork session. It takes place on the 3rd Thursday of the month, at 7 AM Pacific time. The next several sessions are on Dec 19, Jan 16, Feb 20, March 20, and every third Thursday of the month through 2025. If there is interest, I may add another session at a different time.
What Is It?
If you haven’t done breathwork before, it is probably nothing like what you imagine it to be. The breathwork I facilitate is not relaxing or calming. It activates the sympathetic nervous system and is very active. The purpose of this style of breathwork is to release the thinking mind and to dive into the subconscious.
Over a 40 minute period the music and intensity will build to a peak and then release. At the end there will a period of calm for rest and integration.
Why the name? Well, for 2 reasons.
I’ve facilitated over 20 sessions at this point, but I’m still very new to this and still developing my own style. I’m going to be doing some tweaking and experimenting to see what works best for me and the people I facilitate for.
As a “breather,” this is also your chance to experiment! It’s an opportunity to get to know yourself better, bring some awareness to your body and mind, and figure out exactly how you like to breathe during a session.
Why do it?
Most people have some kind of subconscious material that is influencing their life in ways they don’t like. This could be a grudge you hold against your father, an emotional trigger, or maybe just a bad habit that you can’t see to shake. Whenever our life is producing results that we don’t like, it is often the case that we need to work with our subconscious to release whatever pattern is preventing us from getting the results that we want.
Breathwork is an amazingly simple yet profoundly effective and efficient technique for dropping into the subconscious and becoming aware of these patterns. Often that awareness alone is enough to create transformation, but sometimes it takes a series of sessions to fully process some material. Through breathwork I healed my relationship with my late father, released my desire to drink alcohol, and eliminated my road rage. It was so pivotal in my personal growth over the last several years that I decided to learn to facilitate it myself.
If you are in therapy or think you would benefit from therapy you will probably also benefit from breathwork.
What do I need?
A computer or phone with the Zoom app and a set of headphones. A quiet place where you can lie still, uninterrupted for about an hour. An eye mask would help you drop deeper into the experience but not necessary. A beginner’s mind.
